New Skoda Rapid announced

Skoda has announced a new Focus-sized hatchback, called the Rapid. Clearly Skoda is no longer embarrassed by its heritage – the last Skoda Rapid was one of the very last Soviet-era rear engined models (and actually the only pre-VW Skoda which was actually not bad to drive). This one is an exceptionally sharply styled hatchback that will fit between the Fabia and the Octavia.

Skoda recreates Stonehenge in London

Skoda has created a replica Stonehenge made from scrap cars (no Skodas included) and installed it next to Tower Bridge. The installation can be viewed today (20 June) before it goes on a tour, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex from 28th June – 1st July. The piece of automotive art dubbed ‘Citihenge’ by the makers, was specially commissioned to celebrate the launch of the Skoda Citigo. It was built using 18 scrap cars and stands at over five metres tall. Each henge is five metres wide and the commanding structure weighs a remarkable 36 tonnes.

Dacia prepares to launch Duster SUV in the UK

If you have never heard of Dacia, you soon will – it is to Renault what Skoda is to VW. The new low cost brand, which has been a big success in both emerging markets and the rest of Europe since 2005, will arrive in the UK at the end of June. Its main model will be the Duster SUV – think of a more basic, and far cheaper, version of the smash-hit Skoda Yeti. The new car officially goes on sale on June 28th.

Skoda does limited edition 4×4

Skoda has released a limited edition version of the Yeti, called Urban. It’s a gangsta Yetizzle, because in the U-to-tha-K we love that shizzle. It has two and a half grand’s worth of free kit, polished rims and is available in the UK only.Only 750 of them will be made. That number is most likely an estimate of how many Skoda reckons it will sell, but it doesn’t really matter – this car is about value and style rather than exclusivity.
