Volkswagen Group will deepen research-and-development projects with its Chinese joint venture partner China FAW Car Corp. (FAW car above sold in Russia) including work on hybrid and electric cars, according to five people familiar with the matter.

VW on track to sell 10 million vehicles this year as Europe, China offset weak U.S., Brazil sales

Volkswagen Group said it is on target to sell 10 million vehicles this year after its September vehicle sales increased 3 percent to 881,300.

Higher sales in China and Europe are helping to offset weaker volume in the U.S. and South America for the group, which owns the Audi, Porsche and Bentley luxury brands, as well as the VW, Skoda and Seat volume marques.

UK Business Minister Matthew Hancock announced up to £11 million (US$17.7 million) of funding to help establish an initial network of up to 15 hydrogen refueling stations by the end of 2015. Of the £11 million, £7.5 million (US$12 million) will come from government and £3.5 million (US$5.6 million) from industry.
