The head labor official on Daimler AG’s supervisory board says he considers it “unacceptable” that the German automaker’s Mercedes plant in Alabama stands alone among the company’s factories around the world without union representation for its workers.
Some 40,000 Hyundai workers have launched a partial strike over a wage row fuelled by union anger at the South Korean carmaker’s $10 billion bid for a plot of land in Seoul.
Workers at the main Hyundai plant in the southern city of Ulsan and others across the country walked off their jobs for two hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, a union spokesman said.
NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden), the company struggling to bring the Saab brand back to life, said that it intends to lay off up to 200 employees due to lack of work, as the decision to re-start production will be further delayed.
Westport Innovations Inc. unveiled the first generation of its new, proprietary enhanced spark-ignited (ESI) natural gas system. The new approach to natural gas combustion technology is designed to provide vehicle and engine original manufacturers (OEMs) with a “downsized” natural gas solution that is cost competitive while providing similar levels of power, torque, and fuel economy to a larger diesel engine.
