Last week Toyota “proudly” announced that the Prius plug-in hybrid lapped the 12.9 mile Nürburgring course in 20 minutes and 59 seconds, returning an average fuel economy of 698mpg as it used very little fuel and was mostly using the electric power.

The MY 2015 Ford F-150 will offer a new high-output, twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 325 hp (242 kW) and 375 lb-ft (508 N·m) of torque. Due to the extensive lightweighting in the new F-150, this will improve the power-to-weight ratio of the 2015 truck by 15% over the 2014 5.0-liter V8-equipped F-150 with similar torque output.

Effective 1 July 2014, the newly-established Opel Group assumed full responsibility for General Motors’ business in Europe. Through this new entity, the company aggregates the responsibilities for Opel/Vauxhall as well as all other operations of GM in Europe—including Russia.

Osram provides BMW i8’s laser lights

Osram provides the headlamps for the optional laser high beams on the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid supercar. BMW says the i8’s laser lights use half the energy of light-emitting diode headlamps.

A laser diode can emit 170 lumens per watt compared with 100 lumens from LEDs. (A lumen is a unit of visible light.)

Chrysler to recall 792,300 SUVs for ignition problem

Chrysler on Tuesday said it would recall up to 792,300 sport utility vehicles to fix an ignition-switch problem, the same part involved in the massive General Motors recall.
