Two-thirds of convertible drivers don’t use drop top

With the appalling British weather, it’s hard to believe we’re one of the biggest markets for convertible cars. And now, new research shows that despite our love of cabriolets, only a third of soft-top owners drive their motor with the wind in their hair.

Just under two thirds of Britain’s convertible owners (64%) either never or rarely take the roof down, according to the research by Audi, which has four convertibles in its model line-up.

"War on motorists" is a myth says think tank

The war on motorists doesn’t exist and fuel taxes should be raised without delay, a left of centre think tank has said in a new report.

Pay-as-you-drive road charging and congestion charging should also be widely implemented to raise funds for public transport, according to the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR), which has close links to Labour, reported The Daily Telegraph.

New Ford B-Max plays part in Military Tattoo

The annual entertainment spectacular that is the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will feature Ford’s new B-Max MPV, playing the part of chauffeur as it carries the Tattoo Salute taker’s welcome party across the drawbridge of Edinburgh Castle and to the Toast which starts the event.Tattoo producer Brigadier David Allfrey, Major Jim Reid (Tattoo support company commander) and the Lone Piper, along with a highland dancer and medieval waif make up the welcome party. Ford said they emerge from the car each evening “through the 1.5-metre unobstructed opening provided by Ford’s Easy Access Door System, which combines hinged front doors and sliding rear doors” for easy access.

Jaguar dealers rated No.1

Jaguar has come top in the 2012 JD Power Dealer Satisfaction Survey, published by What Car?The interesting thing is that the margin between Jaguar in first place on 86.1% satisfaction and Lexus in second place on 83.5% satisfaction was one of the widest in the whole table. Most car companies were bunched between 77% and 82% and the only outliers were Jaguar at the top and Fiat (74.8%) and Chevrolet (71.5%) at the bottom. The position of Chevrolet at the very bottom of the table is a bit of a surprise. Korean cars are usually very reliable, so the dealers must have done something exceptional to annoy their customers to that extent.

Historic Maserati collection to be auctioned at Goodwood

One of the best collections of Maseratis – certainly in this country – is to be auctioned at the Goodwood Revival by Bonhams in September.The seller is Anthony Hartley, who is a well-known Maserati connoisseur, and has owned, rebuilt and even re-created Maseratis since the 1950s. His collection is expected to sell for several million pounds.
