An international jury of 66 motoring journalists have selected the 10 finalists for the World Car of the Year 2013 award.The 2013 World Car of the Year nominees are:

The jurors have also selected their favourite performance cars for the 2013 World Performance Car Award.

A five-car shortlist for the 2013 World Green Car by five industry experts was also announced.

2013 World Green Car award nominees are:

Finally there is a six-car shortlist for the 2013 World Car Design of the Year award, selected by car design specialists.

Each jury member will now test each car again and top three cars in each category will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The winners will be announced at a press conference at the New York Motor Show on 28 March.

The World Car of the Year Award is now in its ninth year. Last year, the Volkswagen Up! was declared the World Car of the Year.

Gazoo makes the Toyota GT 86 actually fast


It was only a matter of time before someone came up with a GT 86 featuring an appropriate amount of power.  Here’s the first (we think), from the Toyota tuning buffs at Gazoo Racing. The company, whose actual name is GRMN, an egotistical acronym for ‘Gazoo Racing Masters of the Nurburgring’ has supercharged a car that’s gained lots of plaudits for its handling, but often with the caveat that it’s slightly underpowered.

Toyota has finally told everyone how much The GT86’s options will be, on top of how much it costs. It really is the cut price Porsche Cayman we were all hoping for. And it’s a slow news day today. Two versions come to market, one with a six-speed manual, for £24,995, and t’other with a six-speed auto, for £26,495. Forget the latter, though, because buying a GT86 auto is like buying a 3D TV but never wearing the glasses.
