Little over a year ago BMW Performance Centre Instructor Johan Schwartz established a new world record for the longest drift.

He managed to drift the new M5 for 51.3 miles for a total of 322.5 laps around the 256 metre Performance Centre skid pad.

With such records there is always someone who thinks they can do it longer/faster and Johan’s Guinness World Record is no exception as another German drifter named Harald Müller has just set a new record in Turkey, after driving a Toyota GT86 sideways for a distance of 89.55 miles for 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The circuit Harald used was only 0.14 miles long and plenty of water were used to keep the tyres in one piece. Without the water the tyres would have lasted for few rounds probably and it would have been much harder to get them spinning.

The car was likely stock with a 197bhp 2.0-litre boxer that is plenty to get the rear wheels spinning, especially with all that water.
