William Clay Ford Sr., grandson of pioneer automaker, dies at 88

Former Ford Motor Co executive William Clay Ford Sr., the last surviving grandchild of the automaker’s founder, Henry Ford, and the longtime owner of the Detroit Lions football team, died on Sunday at age 88, the company said.

Ford, who spent many of his 57 years at Ford focusing on automobile design, died of pneumonia at his home in the Detroit suburb Grosse Pointe Shores.

Mini Paceman, Coupe/Roadster may not be replaced

Mini may not replace slow-selling niche models such as the two-seat Coupe/Roadster models and the Paceman three-door crossover. Instead the BMW Group subsidiary will focus on three “pillar” models.

Mini needs to be “more relevant for more people,” Oliver Friedmann, the brand’a head of product management, told Automotive News Europe at the auto show here. “Our first priority is to roll out a portfolio that has strong pillars and to be absolutely clear what each stands for.”

At the Geneva International Motor Show, Volkswagen is giving the new Golf Sportsvan TDI BlueMotion its debut. The new 5-seater diesel Golf Sportsvan offers combined cycle fuel consumption of 3.6 l/100 km (65 mpg US), equating to CO2 emissions of 95 g/km (provisional).
