U.S. safety regulators have opened a probe into an estimated 110,000 heavy-duty Chrysler Group Ram pickup trucks with manual transmissions after reports that the vehicle had started when the clutch was not engaged.
General Motors is recalling 218,000 older-generation Chevrolet cars in the U.S. for a potential fire hazard, just a day after announcing a recall of 2.42 million vehicles for issues ranging from safety lap belt cables to potential airbag problems.

The US Environmental Protection Agency today notified Exide Technologies of federal violations at its Vernon, Calif. lead-acid battery recycling facility. EPA’s investigation, prompted by community concerns as well as ongoing investigations by state and local agencies, found that Exide violated the Clean Air Act’s lead emissions standards on more than 30 occasions. EPA’s investigation of the facility is ongoing.
