As the pressure continues to mount for General Motors over its ignition switch recall, the company has asked a judge to delay action on the ignition lawsuits until a panel on multidistrict litigation rules whether the 30 cases can be combined and a bankruptcy court decides whether the claims violate GM’s 2009 bankruptcy order.

General Motors engineers reported accidentally turning off ignition switches in a Cadillac SRX with their knees more than eight years ago, and they ordered a similar fix to a similar problem in smaller, cheaper cars linked to 13 deaths, according to documents from parts maker Delphi Automotive.

Suzuki joins fuel-efficiency race with simplified hybrid system

Suzuki said today it will introduce an affordable, simplified gasoline-electric hybrid technology in its cars, joining rivals in the race for fuel efficiency.

Suzuki, which has largely focused on internal combustion engines, said it needs to boost fuel efficiency to survive in a competitive industry.
