VYCON delivers flywheel kinetic wayside energy storage substation (WESS) for LA Metro

VYCON, a designer and manufacturer of flywheel kinetic energy storage systems, has completed delivery of its kinetic energy storage system at the Los Angeles Metro Red Line Westlake/MacArthur Park station.

The equipment will be used in Metro’s Wayside Energy Storage Substation-WESS Project, which is funded by a grant of $4.4 million provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) Program, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. VYCON’s Contract has a value of $3.6 million for the supply of the main core equipment and the commissioning of the entire system.

California ARB posts final modifications for ZEV rule for public comment

The staff of the California Air Resources Board (ARB) has posted for public comment current final modifications for the Zero Emission Vehicle Regulation for 15 days.

Statutorily, depending upon the comments received, ARB staff may either make further modifications and resubmit to Board for further consideration; failing that, the Board will adopt the new regulatory language.These final tweaks to the ZEV rule involve the allocation of ZEV credits for different types of ZEV vehicles and the handling of the associated fast-refueling accreditation, which includes the possible use of battery-swapping.
