New TRW steering wheel concept supports automated driving

TRW  unveiled a new steering wheel concept, being shown on the Rinspeed XchangE showcar at the Geneva Motor Show. The steering wheel offers a number of multi-functional features including hands on/off detection to help support the driver during semi-automated and automated driving situations.

We have seen the Jaguar’s all-new mid-sized sports saloon testing for a while now here in Britain.

Until now almost everyone referred to this new model as XS.

Toyota Europe hybrid sales up 43% year-on-year in 2013

At the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced that European sales of hybrid vehicles reached an all-time high in 2013 totaling 156,863 units, up 43% year-on-year. Hybrid models now represent 18.5% total TME sales, including several countries outside of the EU.

Fiat doesn’t need to give new Mazda roadster to Alfa, Marchionne says

Fiat doesn’t necessarily need to build the roadster announced with Mazda early last year with an Alfa Romeo badge, Fiat Chrylser Automobile CEO Sergio Marchionne said on Tuesday.”The brand that we use will be chosen in due time.

Volkswagen electrifying more than 40 more models over next few years

In remarks before the opening of the Geneva Motora Show, Volkswagen Group Chairman of the Board of Management Prof. Dr. Winterkorn said that a plug-in hybrid version of the Volkswagen Passat would join the Group’s range of low-CO2 vehicles “soon.”In his remarks, Winterkorn noted that Group research and development expenditure rose by 15% last year to the record value of €10.2 billion (US $14 billion), with the “lion’s share going to green technologies.” Winterkorn said that the Group was reinforcing its objective to become the world’s leading automaker, also in ecological terms, by 2018.
