Maserati’s quarterly profit topped Ferrari’s for the first time since the Modena-based automaker became part of Fiat Group more than 25 years ago. The main reason was that Ferrari took a big financial hit to part ways with former Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
Maserati expects to sell more than 35,000 cars this year to put it well on its way to meeting a 50,000 sales target in 2015, subject to the availability of a new SUV due next year, the brand’s CEO, Harold Wester, said.
Maserati will not sell more than 75,000 vehicles globally a year to retain the exclusivity of the brand, Umberto Maria Cini, head of general overseas markets at the automaker, said on Thursday.
Maserati is on track to meet sales targets for the brand over the next four years, the automaker’s CEO Harald Wester said.
Maserati, Volkswagen Group and other foreign automakers are having their best sales streak in years in Japan, as the economy improves and consumers like Taichi Matsukura try to stand out amid a sea of Toyotas.
