Maserati will cap global sales at 75,000 per year

Geneva 2014: Maserati previews sportier Alfieri Concept

Maserati will not sell more than 75,000 vehicles globally a year to retain the exclusivity of the brand, Umberto Maria Cini, head of general overseas markets at the automaker, said on Thursday.

Maserati has said that it is on track to meet this sales target in 2018, after first passing another goal of 50,000 registrations set for next year. Last year, the sports car maker sold 15,400 cars globally.

The revival of the Maserati brand represents a key element of parent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ goal to be profitable in Europe, alongside the relaunch of the sporty Alfa Romeo marque, as the group aims to move back into the black in a region which is only slowly recovering from a six-year slump in sales.

The marque’s current lineup, which includes the GranTurismo, the Quattroporte and the compact, lower-priced Ghibli, will be extended in late 2015 or in 2016 by the Levante SUV. After the Levante, the company has promised the Alfieri, a sporty two-seater.
