Automotive 2014 Digital Aftermarket Factbook released

The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), formerly known as Automotive Service Industry Association, recently released its 2014 Digital Aftermarket Factbook, an assessment of aftermarket trends. The report gives a comprehensive overview of the entire aftermarket industry and includes enhanced features such as downloadable charts, tables and graphs, live embedded hyperlinks and bookmarks.

The economic analysis by Dr. Timothy Nash, a professor at Northwood University, notes that aftermarket business leaders remain negative about the economy with little change expected on the aftermarket industry’s performance over the next 12 months.

Report: Americans driving less

As the average number of miles driven by Americans heads into its eighth year of decline, a new report from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group(PIRG) Education Fund finds that the slowdown in driving is likely to continue.

Baby Boomers are moving out of the phase in their life when they do the most commuting, while driving-averse millennials move into that phase. These demographic changes and other factors will likely keep driving down for decades, according to the report, “A New Direction: Our Changing Relationship with Driving and the Implications for America’s Future.”

Delphi announces Dream Shop Sweepstakes for technicians

Delphi Product & Service Solutions launched its annual Delphi Dream Shop Sweepstakes in the U.S. and Canada. For the grand prize, Delphi will equip one lucky professional automotive technician with Delphi parts, tools, equipment, supplies and training. Hundreds of other prizes will be awarded monthly, weekly and instantly.

The winning technician can use the grand prize to upgrade his existing workspace or build his ultimate Dream Shop. Technicians can register at the dedicated Delphi Dream Shop website (delphidreamshop.com) or, new for 2013, through Delphi’s Facebook page (facebook.com/DelphiAutoParts). The grand prize winner will be introduced this November at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas.

U.S. Bill introduced to give away OEM parts patents to boost aftermaket competiton

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), current member and former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, along with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), introduced the Promoting Automotive Repair, Trade and Sales Act of 2013 (PARTS), a bipartisan bill which would expand consumer choice for automobile collision repair parts, cut costs paid by insurers and drivers, and ensure competition in the automobile repair parts market.
