Volkswagen T-ROC concept revealed, new possible SUV range
Volkswagen has has revealed T-Roc concept at the Geneva Motor Show, that rides on its new MQB modular transverse matrix platform, underpinning also the seventh-generation Golf.
While T-Roc is purely a concept, Volkswagen says the model is a “look ahead to possible future SUV models”.
The blue, three-door crossover is powered by 182bhp 2.0-litre TDI four-cylinder with 280 pound-feet of torque, linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The T-Roc’s real highlight is a two-piece removable roof that can be stored in the cargo department. The angular interior comes with leather upholstery, folding rear seats, Blue-Splash Metallic trim, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a digital climate control system and a removable tablet that acts as an infotainment display.
There are also front and rear cameras, which are backed up in the dark by LED headlights, extending the driver’s field of vision.
As it rides on the MQB platform it could easily use any the powertrain configurations found in the Golf family, from a plug-in hybrid, petrol, natural gas, diesel to a pure electric version.
The R-Roc weighs 1,420kg and rides on multi-part 19-inch alloy wheels.
Even though it is smaller than the aging Tiguan it would be nice to see some of the styling to carry over for the next-generation Tiguan, which clearly needs a replacement.
