The University of Bath’s (UK) Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) will receive £1.2 million (US$2.0 million) to fund its automotive research as part of the ACTIVE – Advanced Combustion Turbocharged Inline Variable valvetrain Engine project partly funded by the UK’s Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC).

ACTIVE is centered on Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

The project will accelerate the introduction of future generation low-carbon technologies with the target of making substantial CO2 savings, including advanced turbocharging, advanced combustion system development and variable valvetrain technology.

A key aspect of the project is to engage with the UK supply chain and this project presents an excellent opportunity for several participating UK based component and equipment supplier partners.

The UK government is contributing £13,138,402 (US$22 million) out of a total project cost of £26,605,912 (US$45 million).
