General Motors said its global auto sales rose 0.5 percent to 2.51 million during the second quarter as the largest U.S. automaker’s tally of vehicle recalls in North America reached a record.

VW brand suffers rare sales drop as Europe ails
Volkswagen Group reported a rare dip in global sales of its core VW brand in July and said business conditions may remain tough for an industry beset by slumping demand and overcapacity.

Cumulative global sales of the Toyota Prius passed three million in June. The milestone was achieved 16 years after debut of first generation model, which sold 123,000 units globally and 1,262 in UK.
