LG Display seeks 30% auto-screen share by 2018

LG Display Co., the world’s second-largest flat panel maker, is aiming to almost double its share of the in-vehicle auto screen market.

The company is testing displays using organic light-emitting diode technology for German carmakers, James Shin, head of LG Display’s Automotive Business, said in an interview.

Marchionne looks to double Jeep’s global sales by 2018

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne wants the automaker’s Jeep brand to double its global sales to more than 1.5 million vehicles by 2018 with strong growth in South America and China, sources said.

Marchionne sees the iconic U.S. brand as one of the main pillars of growth for Fiat Chrysler and will announce his ambitions for Jeep when he unveils a new five-year product and business plan for the combined Italian-American company on Tuesday, sources said.

VW targets 60% rise in China production by 2018

WOLFSBURG (Bloomberg) — Volkswagen Group plans to increase production 60 percent by 2018 in China, where the German company’s earnings last year rose by more than 40 percent. Capacity in China will rise to 4 million vehicles a year by 2018 from about 2.5 million currently.

A new plant in China approved by the supervisory board will build as many as 300,000 vehicles yearly and will start operating in early 2016, CEO Martin Winterkorn said today.

The battle among the world’s biggest carmakers comes as the industry is headed for a record year. Global 2012 sales will top 80 million cars and trucks for the first time, as robust U.S. and Japanese purchases offset a European downturn, according to estimates from LMC Automotive.
