Rain X Repellent Review
Rain X is a liquid that is applied to a previously cleaned and dried windscreen. It is easy to apply just use a circular motion, allow it to dry and then buff with a soft cloth in a circular motion until clear.
The application creates an invisible hydrophobic coating that repels rain, sleet and snow. The coating also makes for easy removal of ice, salt, mud and bugs. It works on car windscreens, side and rear windows and even headlights. Just do not use it on any plastic surface.
The dangers of driving in rain come not only from the lack of traction from the tyres, but also from the decreased visibility through the windscreen. Rain X improves wet weather visibility and safety by not only eliminating the small blind spots that the windscreen wipers do not get, but by keeping the side windows clear. The rain quickly disperses off the windscreen. The rain runs off the windscreen really neatly and you use the wipers much less after application. The application will last up to 60 days and helps improve visibility up to 1 second earlier. This can improve the stopping distance by up to 90ft from a 60mph stop.
Most of these coatings like Rain X are silicone based and do a decent job, but there is a better product for about the same cost. Recently Trico Products introduced a coating that bonds to the glass, and lasts longer than traditional coatings. This product is called “Trico View” it is available at most parts places.
