General Motors posted an 85 percent drop in second-quarter net income, hurt by recall-related expenses in the United States and restructuring costs in Europe.
Costs related to GM’s unprecedented spate of safety recalls, along with special items, sliced GM’s net income for the April-June period by about $1.5 billion net of taxes, down to $190 million, from $1.26 billion in the year-earlier period.

Hyundai said its net profit for the second quarter fell the most since the first quarter of last year, as the automaker was hit by the local currency’s sharp gain versus the dollar. The automaker warned that it expects a tough second half as the South Korean won remains strong and global demand growth weakens.
The jury for the 2015 Car of the Year has annonunced 33 cars that will be competing for the prestigious award, which will be announced next March at the Geneva Motor Show.
All 33 cars are either already on sale or will be by the end of this year in at least five European countries with a planned sales of at least 5,000 units in 2015.
