MINI Citysurfer scooter concept is a compact foldable electric scooter

MINI does not have any new four wheel models to show at the Los Angeles Auto Show, so the company has brought there a very cool concept called MINI Citysurfer Concept, which combines the agile riding properties of a kick scooter with an electric drive and expressive design features in the style of the British premium brand.

It is really an impressively executed idea. The scooter is very compact, foldable and weighs 18kg, making it easy to transport, for example in the luggage compartment of the new MINI 3 door or on buses and trains.

Power comes from auxiliary electric drive with thumb-operated accelerator and gearless hub motor in the rear wheel offering speeds up to 15 mph. The electric drive is activated when the not mentioned minimum speed is reached from the rider’s own physical thrust and motor is deactivated by means of a brake lever.

The lithium-ion battery is permanently installed in the frame and charging is via 12-volt automobile socket or household socket. The range is 10-15 miles.

Large wheels with pneumatic tyres also make it suitable for bumpy paths.

This is clearly something that if not over priced could become quite popular. Lets hope the concept status is just the beginning and the production model is coming soon.
