Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the compact Vision G-Code concept crossover for urban used, that is smaller than the GLA.

The Vision G-Code concept is 4100mm long (317mm shorter than the GLA), while 96mm wider at 1900mm and 6mm taller at 1500mm than the GLA.

The design is quite futuristic and is a result of work between Mercedes-Benz’s design studios in Germany and China.

Besides a round look, LED lights, cameras instead of side mirrors and huge 21-inch alloys, the concept boasts a so called multi-voltaic paint that works as a solar cell producing electric energy under daylight and also regenerates electrostatic energy when wind is drawn over the body’s surface.

Very impressive if this makes it into production one day.

Engine details are limited, but Mercedes-Benz did reveal the concept uses a state-of-the-art turbocharged combustion engine that runs on hydrogen and an electric motor at the rear.

Depending on what driving mode is used, the front grille is backlit in three colours: either red, blue or purple.

While the concept is clearly not destined for production in its current form, it could hint at a new sub-compact crossover, which would sit below the current entry level GLA, going against the upcoming Audi Q1.
