Jay Leno drives the McLaren P1 supercar at Top Gear test track

Jay Leno is the first person outside McLaren to test drive the P1. Recently he drove the P1?s rival, the 918 Spyder and now takes a closer look at the new British supercar.

He starts at the McLaren factory and is surprised how much it has changed since his last visit when the MP4-12C was launched. The P1 will be built at a rate of one car a day and 61 people are involved.

After a factory tour he takes a helicopter ride to the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey which most of you know as the Top Gear track.

The P1 is an impressive supercar combining a 627bhp twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine and a 176bhp electric motor. Combined power output is 903bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-62mph sprint in less than three seconds and to an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

Priced from £866,000, the P1 production will be limited to just 375 units and of course Jay Leno has ordered one.
