Back in May, Jaguar announced plans to build six brand new “1963? Lightweight E-Types.

During the 1960’s Jaguar build only 12 cars of the planned 18, with the last one assembled in 1964 and now the remaining six will be built with the first one called ‘Car Zero’ ready for this weeks debut at the Pebble Beach in Monterey, California.

The new Lightweight E-type is the first recreation to come from Jaguar Heritage, featuring aluminium bodyshell with doors, trunklid, hardtop and bonnet also in aluminium, all assembled to exacting standards.

Power comes from a 340bhp 3.8-litre six-cylinder XK engine with triple Weber carburetors delivering 280 lb-ft of torque, linked to a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission. The unit mirrors the original power units, with an aluminium block, ‘wide angle’ aluminium cylinder head and dry sump lubrication.

E-Type is one of the most beautiful classic cars and the Lightweight E-Type with its aluminium body is very unique as it is 114kg lighter than the standard model.

With just six cars to be hand-built at Browns Lane it will be very rare and probably even more desirable than the originals.

All six cars will be sold as period competition vehicles and all will be suitable for FIA homologation for historic motorsport purposes.
