Jaguar Land Rover sets H1 sales record
Jaguar Land Rover said its global sales rose 14 percent to 240,372 vehicles in the first six months, its best half year to date, boosted by robust demand in China.
Land Rover’s volume was up 14 percent to 196,785 during the period while Jaguar sales increased 16 percent to 43,587, the automaker said in a statement.
Sales in China, JLR’s No. 1 global market since 2012, soared rose 48 percent to 62,479 through June.
JLR said June sales of the Land Rover and Jaguar brands rose 17 percent to 39,594. Land Rover sales increased to 18 percent to 31,999, while sales were up XX percent to 7,595.
JLR’s China volume soared 60 percent to 11,554 in June.
JLR and joint venture partner Chery Automobile will open a factory in the east China city of Changshu in the fourth quarter of this year.
In North America, JLR sales rose 4 percent last month to 5,301 as demand for the new Range Rover Sport helped lift Land Rover sales 16 percent to 4,038. Jaguar sales fell 23 percent to 1,263 in the same period. Overall, JLR sales rose 12 percent in the market through June.
Jaguar Land Rover aims to boost its global footprint through a wide-ranging five-year investment plan that includes a 1.5 billion pound (1.9 billion euro) investment to introduce an all-new, aluminum vehicle architecture in forthcoming models, beginning with the new Jaguar XE sedan, which will be built from next year in the UK.
