Ford Focus was the best selling 2012 nameplate

The Ford Focus was the world’s best-selling vehicle nameplate in 2012, with Fiesta as the world’s best-selling subcompact car, according to the automotive data and trends forecasting leader Polk.

According to Polk, Ford Focus sales totalled 1,020,410 cars worldwide in 2012, while the Fiesta has 723,130 registrations making it the best-selling subcompact car globally.

“Focus and Fiesta represent the culmination of our One Ford global product strategy,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. “Our global products are resonating with consumers – especially in the best-selling, most competitive segments – with their unique combination of fuel efficiency, high quality, rich content and fun-to-drive personalities. Through One Ford, we’re able to bring economies of scale and fantastic value to customers all around the world.”

Both the Focus and Fiesta are also UK’s number one and two best-sellers, with 109,265 and 83,115 sales respectively.

In related news Toyota has announced they sold 1.6 Corolla nameplate vehicles in 2012, though according to Polk Toyota delivered 872,774 Corolla’s last year.

It could be that Toyota’s own data also includes corolla-based Matrix and Auris.
