Toyota-affiliated supplier Denso Corp. is acquiring a 50 percent stake in ADASENS Automotive, a German producer of driver assistance systems.

Denso will work with ADASENS “to help accelerate and advance the development of active safety technologies,” Denso said today in a statement.

ADASENS, of Weissensberg, Germany, specializes in image recognition systems that use cameras to spot obstacles in front of, behind and around vehicles. Its products include lane-departure warning systems, blind-spot monitors and parking assist vision systems.

Denso supplies advanced technology and components for thermal, powertrain control, electronic, electric and safety systems. The company has developed passive and active safety technologies to protect motorists and prevent traffic accidents.

Denso, of Kariya, Japan, ranks No. 2 on the Automotive News Europe list of the top 100 global suppliers, with estimated worldwide parts sales to automakers of $34.2 billion during fiscal 2012.
