Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory in UK loses chance to build minivan
General Motors Co. will move production of the Opel/Vauxhall Zafira minivan to Ruesselsheim in Germany from its Bochum factory.
Ruesselsheim and Vauxhall’s plant in Ellesmere Port, England, had been in the running to gain Zafira production after the 50-year-old Bochum plant in Germany’s Ruhr region closes at the end of next year.
Edmunds.com Report: Certified pre-owned cars become more popular
Certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles are more popular than ever, according to a new report from Edmunds.com, the resource for car shopping and automotive information.
The report, which evaluates the landscape of America’s used car market through the first quarter of 2013, found that CPO sales this year are up 6.2 percent over the first three months of 2012, and that the segment’s 21 percent share of all used car sales by franchise dealers in 1Q 2013 was the highest it has ever been.
U.S. DOE launches public-private partnership to deploy hydrogen infrastructure
The Energy Department launched H2USA—a new public-private partnership focused on advancing hydrogen infrastructure to support more transportation energy options for U.S. consumers, including fuel cell electric vehicles.
The new partnership brings together automakers, government agencies, gas suppliers and the hydrogen and fuel cell industries to coordinate research and identify cost-effective solutions to deploy infrastructure that can deliver affordable, clean hydrogen fuel in the United States.
U.S. nhtsa opens safety investigations into older Chrysler, Mazda vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it is opening new investigations into older Chrysler vehicles that stall after refueling without warning and Mazda cars with doors that fail to properly close.
NHTSA said it is investigating 192,076 2006 Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger and Magnum cars quipped with 5.7L or 6.1L 8-cylinder HEMI engines. NHTSA said it has received 54 complaints of vehicles stalling while driving after refueling at a gas station — of those, 48 reported multiple problems. NHTSA said the complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with more than 50 percent received within the past eight months.
