Constellium launches new aluminium high-strength technology for Crash Management Systems

Constellium N.V. launched new aluminium high-strength Crash Management Systems (CMS) technology designed for the front and the rear of a vehicle for enhanced structural protection in the event of a collision. Constellium’s technology enables the production of aluminum CMS that are 15% lighter and 10% stronger than the current aluminium CMS on the market, the company said.

Volkswagen Group France and SNAM partner on recycling hybrid and EV batteries

Volkswagen Group France et la Société Nouvelle d’Affinage des Métaux (SNAM) signed a partnership agreement through which the hybrid and EV batteries from group brands—Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA and Volkswagen Utilities—will be recycled in the two French factories owned by SNAM, Saint-Quentin-Fallavier (Isère) and Viviez (Aveyron).

BMW and SGL to invest €100M to double automotive carbon fiber production

Germany’s Handelsblatt reports that BMW and partner SGL will invest more than €100 million ($137 million) to double their joint production of carbon fiber to 6,000 metric tons a year from 3,000 tons a year now. In addition to meeting demand from the i3 and i8, the carbon fiber will also be used in new 7 series in 2015, according to the report.
