Speed cameras: rumours of their death have been greatly exaggerated. Two years ago we were reporting on the number of road safety partnerships switching off their speed cameras – now the Highways Agency has revealed a new system that will offer more cost-effective motorway monitoring.
Dürr Ecoclean water jetting system up to 80% water jet pressure reduction in engine cylinder bore activation
High-pressure water jetting at pressures of up to 3000 bar (45,500 psi) is becoming increasingly widespread as a method of activating the cylinder bore surfaces of engine blocks prior to thermal coating. Now, however, Dürr Ecoclean’s PulseBoreCenter permits the use of no more than 600 bar (8,702 psi) in this application—up to an 80% reduction.The gain is due to the integrated EcoCBooster used in the PulseBoreCenter, which generates a pulsating water jet of much higher kinetic energy. Users will thus benefit from substantial savings in investment and operating cost as well as from improved process results. This technology offers advantages also in other operations such as cleaning, deburring and decoating.

Mercedes-Benz’ new 9-speed 9G-TRONIC, the first rear-wheel drive nine-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, is making its debut in the E 350 BlueTEC as the standard transmission paired with the 185 kW (252 hp) V6 diesel. Announced in 2013, the 9G-TRONIC represents the seventh automatic transmission generation from Mercedes-Benz.
Carlos vs. Carlos: PSA move turns double-act to rivalry
Whatever the secret of French carmaker Renault’s crisis-defying performance, Carlos Tavares has taken it with him to domestic competitor PSA/Peugeot-Citroen.
An appearance at the Geneva auto show on Tuesday marks Tavares’s graduation from former Renault second-in-command and Carlos Ghosn protege to PSA CEO and Ghosn rival. Under Brazilian-born Ghosn, who heads the Renault-Nissan alliance, Tavares helped to steer the French side of the partnership unscathed through a deep European slump that almost sank PSA. While Renault was sheltered by its 43.4 percent Nissan stake and buoyant low-cost car sales, analysts also credit price increases and cost savings that Tavares pushed through and now wants to repeat at PSA.
