Ford’s Focus hits cinema screens this month in the blockbuster film The Sweeney.Featuring Ray Winstone as Jack Regan and Ben Drew playing sidekick George Carter, it plans to bring back all what we loved from the original ITV television series from the 1970s staring John Thaw and Dennis Waterman.
Ford has always understood the power of product placement. The Blue Oval really made its mark in the 70s providing TV and movie stars with Fords while other car makers failed to understand how it could benefit their public profile. Which got us thinking: What have been the greatest movie cars of all time? Here are our top five.
Aston Martin DB5 – Goldfinger, 1964
It’s probably the greatest example of product placement ever, and despite it now being a bit of a clichéd image, the character Bond and an Aston Martin car are inseparable. It not only set an example of how car manufacturers could place their products in film, but also saved Aston from a financial crisis.
When you think of a flying movie car, forget Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Doc Brown’s DeLorean DMC-12 is far more memorable. In fact, it’s fair to say, the DMC-12 is only remembered by the public due to its appearance in the blockbuster. Sadly, the car’s appearance never improved DeLorean’s hopes of succeeding as a car company.
