2015 Jeep Renegade compact SUV with a boxy design revealed
This is the new-entry level Jeep Renegade, that we called Jeepster during its development time.
As predicted the new model has a boxy design, taking inspiration from Wrangler and original military Jeep with its boxy shape. The front is dominated by a seven-slot vertical front grille and the vehicle has a pretty high ground clearance.
Surprisingly the Renegade has a low drag coefficient of 0.36 that is hard to believe at first looking at the boxy shape.
The Renegade is not another compact city SUV as it will be offered in a trail-rated variant called Trailhawk 4×4 with 17-inch all-terrain tyres and a Selec-Terrain system.
The Renegade was developed together with Fiat’s version that should debut later this year, riding on the modified Fiat 500L platform with a steel monocoque structure, newly developed independent suspension with MacPherson struts at the front axle and Chapman struts at the back.
There are 16 different powertrain combinations available globally. four different MultiAir petrol and two MultiJet II diesel engines.
Stop-start technology is available, as well as a segment-first nine speed automatic transmission. There are also two manual transmissions, with five and six gears, and a dual-clutch transmission.
The interior is nicely equipped with Uconnect infotainment system with a 5 or 6.5-inch touchscreen display featuring Bluetooth, DAB and HD radio, Sirius services, USB & AUX.
The Renegade will be built in Malfi, Italy where Fiat will also build its own version, the 500X.
