Germany’s Daimler is examining the joint production of small luxury vehicles with Japan’s Nissan at a Nissan plant in Mexico, and expects a decision by the end of the year, a group board member told a German newspaper.
“This would be an option, if our compact cars business in North America performs well,” Andreas Renschler, who is also head of production for Mercedes, was quoted as saying in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published on Saturday.

According to Reuters, MG Rover’s accountancy company, Deloitte, has been fined £14m by the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) over not being able to succeed in manage conflicts of interest in its advice to MG Rover Group in the run-up to its falling into administration in 2005.
Deloitte and partner Maghsoud Einollahi had acted as corporate finance advisers to firms involved with MG Rover and the Phoenix Four, including giving tax advice while Deloitte audited MG Rover.
Sales at Daimler luxury brand Mercedes-Benz rose to a record for the month of August, propelled by soaring sales of its compact car line and a jump in demand in China.
Daimler plans to start selling a self-driving car by 2020 to help its Mercedes-Benz brand regain the top spot among premium carmakers, development chief Thomas Weber said.
