Tesla is pushing beyond the friendly confines of its California home to take on the world’s biggest luxury-car brands in their home market. The Tesla Model S, on display in Frankfurt this week, is hitting the autobahn just as the German goliaths start selling their own electrics.
In response to legislation introduced this week in Congress by Reps. Reid Ribble, R-Wis., and Tim Walz, D-Minn., regarding the federal excise tax on heavy duty trucks, Dick Witcher, chairman of the American Truck Dealers (ATD) and a Massachusetts International and Ford truck dealer issued the following statement:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, facing elections in less than two weeks, warned the EU against imposing tough environmental targets on German luxury carmakers. Merkel, speaking at the Frankfurt auto show on Thursday, blocked a deal in June that would have set Europe’s car industry an ambitious target to reduce CO2 emissions.
The Federal Trade Commission is investigating whether dealers colluded to hurt TrueCar Inc. in 2011 and 2012 over vehicle price competition fostered by the online shopping site.
