We thought BMW simply provided transportation at the Olympics, but apparently, they do a lot more – like training long-jumpers.
According to a feature on Translogic, BMW cameras being developed to help prevent car accidents are also being used to analyse the speed of long-jumpers in both the horizontal and vertical planes.
The country is still in recession, but Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) seems to be single-handedly trying to grow the UK economy. Today it has announced another 1,100 jobs at the Castle Bromwich plant in Birmingham. This is in addition to the 8,000 jobs created in the last two years.
The significance of today’s announcement is that these jobs are at Jaguar, not Land Rover, where all the growth has been up to now.
Only in Lotus-land. At the same time it was opening its Ferrari-rivalling store in London, Lotus said it was pulling out of the Paris Motor Show in September.
Toyota has just made its 200 millionth vehicle, 77 years after its first, a Toyota G1 truck appeared in 1935, followed by its first car, the AA in 1936.
Toyota grew out of the Toyoda Loom Works. The “d” was replaced by a “t” because it was felt to be more auspicious in the Japanese language – and one cannot say they were wrong. Toyoda had started as licensees of British loom manufacturers, but the company developed the world’s most advanced automatic looms – and put a lot of its British competitors out of business.
