1949 Porsche 356 Gmünd Coupe made in Austria
Porsche 356 was company’s first production automobile, but not many people know the production started in 1948 at Gmünd, Austria, not in Germany.
The production in Austria was limited to just 50 cars and in 1950 the factory relocated to Zuffenhausen, Germany, with production of the 356 continuing until April 1965.
Porsche has now released a video from a recent photoshoot with this rare 1949 Porsche 356 Gmünd Coupe. The vehicle in the video is the last unit made in Austria with chassis number 50.
Jeff Zwart gives us a nice quick overview on driving this car in the modern world and why the Gmünd truly represents the beginnings of Porsche.
