German Chancellor Angela Merkel, facing elections in less than two weeks, warned the EU against imposing tough environmental targets on German luxury carmakers. Merkel, speaking at the Frankfurt auto show on Thursday, blocked a deal in June that would have set Europe’s car industry an ambitious target to reduce CO2 emissions.
Daimler said it’s having trouble meeting orders for its Mercedes-Benz brand as all-time-high August sales put premium-car manufacturers on course for record full-year deliveries.
Daimler has not yet concluded an internal review into the role of its “Own Retail” dealerships, a network of showrooms in Germany owned and operated by the company itself, CEO Dieter Zetsche said.
Daimler extended Zetsche’s contract by three years in February. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has purchased roughly 1.15 million euros ($1.51 million) worth of company stock using the proceeds from share options granted nearly 10 years ago.
