BMW will recall an unspecified number of vehicles proactively in China after months of consumer complaints over a potentially defective engine control component.
BMW said in a statement that was released on Friday via the Sina Weibo microblog that it had started a “full investigation” into a potential bolt problem with VANOS — a device used in BMW engines that controls air intake and exhaust valves.
BMW Group targets a record 2 million cars or more sold this year.
“We forecast further sales volume growth in the current year which will again bring us a new all-time high,” CEO Norbert Reithofer said on Thursday.
NHTSA has found yet another fault with BMW products, with a recent motorcycle issue uncovered. And while these things can cost a manufacturer quite some money, it’s far better than the alternative.
