
Toyota is testing wireless technology to charge its next generation of electric and plug-in hybrid cars. The new technology would replace cables and connectors with a coil set in the surface of the road.

Toyota on Wednesday announced a global recall of 1.9 million of its signature Prius hybrid cars, dealing a blow to a brand favoured by the eco-conscious including Hollywood celebrities.

NHTSA notes Toyota recalled nearly 5.3 million vehicles last year. For the second consecutive year, Toyota won the recall crown, according to federal safety regulators.

Toyota has managed to maintain the world’s largest automaker title again, for the second year in a row.

Toyota said that it expects to sell more hydrogen-powered electric cars in the U.S. than previously planned.
