This is the new face of the Fisker Karma, the luxury plug-in hybrid whose parent company went to the wall last year. But it’s not only the Karma’s gap-toothed grin that’s disappeared: its plug-in hybrid powertrain has bitten the dust, too, replaced by a GM-sourced V8 – a supercharged lump boasting 638hp and 640lb ft.

The 2013 Destino made a surprise debut today at the Detroit Auto Show. Basically the Destino is a Fisker Karma without the electric motors, batteries and range extending combustion engine.

Battery breakthrough for electric cars?


A123, the company that supplies batteries for the Fisker Karma, claims to have made a “game changing” breakthrough.It says it has developed a lithium-ion battery pack that may need no external cooling or heating, being happy to operate at any temperature between plus 45 degrees and minus 30 degrees. So what, you might ask? Well, the problems with keeping lithium batteries cool in a car was the main reason why they took around 10 years longer to get into cars than into mobile phones or laptops.
