Jaguar Land Rover boosts parent Tata's profit

Tata stated its second-quarter income gained 71 percent to 35.4 billion rupees ($564 million) as sales at its Jaguar Land Rover unit expanded at a fast pace.

And Jaguar is back to building sportscars, as well as grand tourers and saloons. Jaguar intends to offer a full range of models in order to broaden the appeal of its sports cars.

Just as the E-Type’s separate passenger tub and engine frame were revolutionary in their day, the F-TYPE breaks new ground with a combined body and chassis made out of recycled aluminium that weights a mere 261 kilos. Two men can pick it up.

As part of the “dance of the seven veils” strategy, whereby we all get teased by a steady stream of near-reveals, a development prototype example of Jaguar’s new sports car, will make its public debut at the Festival of Speed.

With plenty of razzmatazz and a heavily camouflaged car, Jaguar has confirmed what we already knew – that it will be making a new small sports car to compete with the Porsche Boxster and Cayman. An E-Type replacement, if you will. It has also confirmed the name: F-Type. Sadly, the only pictures we’re getting at the moment are of the disguised prototype, but we can now expect a slew of carefully presented teaser information before the production car is finally presented, probably at the Paris show in September.
