The Obama administration said Friday it is delaying a decision on whether to reduce the amount of ethanol in the nation’s fuel supply.

The US Environmental Protection Agency today notified Exide Technologies of federal violations at its Vernon, Calif. lead-acid battery recycling facility. EPA’s investigation, prompted by community concerns as well as ongoing investigations by state and local agencies, found that Exide violated the Clean Air Act’s lead emissions standards on more than 30 occasions. EPA’s investigation of the facility is ongoing.

The US Environmental Protection Agency ordered Molycorp Minerals, LLC, to pay a $27,300 penalty for improper management of hazardous waste at its San Bernardino County mine and mineral processing facility. The violations were discovered as part of unannounced EPA inspections in October 2012.

As a result of a lawsuit brought by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association and the Automotive Refrigeration Products Institute, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently issued a final rule under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) that will permit R-1234yf to be sold to consumers so that they can recharge their vehicle air conditioning systems.
