Kia’s 2013 hot hatch sneak peek
One of 2013’s significant new models gets a preview in concept sketch form – the Kia pro_cee’d GT looks set to cause ripples in the hot hatchback sector, if it carried over the exciting looks promised by this stylist’s sketch.
According to the text that accompanies the stylist’s sketch, the ‘the first glimpse of the Kia pro_cee’d GT reveals a hot hatch perfectly aligned with Kia’s sportiness and “fun to drive” positioning.’ We’ll reserve judgement on that, but the arrival of Kia’s first genuine hot hatchback is an important event, and should add interest to the Geneva motor show in 2013, where it’s expected to break cover.
The pro_cee’d range is scheduled to go on sale early in 2013, with the GT following later in the year. Kia has confirmed that it will be powered by the 184bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged GDI engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission as featured in the Hyundai Veloster. That car accelerates from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and goes on to a maximum speed of 135mph – the three-door Kia should be quicker (and lighter) than its innovative four-door cousin.
