Faurecia to build new N.A. headquarters, tech center

Faurecia North America Inc. is planning to build a new North American headquarters and technical center north of Detroit in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Faurecia, the French interiors and seating supplier controlled by Peugeot SA, is planning to build a three-story, 300,000-square-foot headquarters that will house its administration and a light assembly operation, said Stacy Fields, asset manager of business development for General Development Co. General Development is the developer and general contractor for the building, which will be leased.

A Faurecia spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

The headquarters will sit on 211 acres and will ultimately house about 700 employees, some of which will be new hires, Fields said. Industry sources said the new headquarters will be a $30 million development.

General Development bought the property from Chrysler Group LLC in 2010, Fields said.

Construction on the building is expected to begin in the next 30-60 days, and it’s expected to open in the first quarter of next year, according to Fields.

The Faurecia headquarters will be in the same area as the 55,000-square-foot Henniges Automotive North America Inc. headquarters and the 250,000-square-foot U.S. Farathane Corp. headquarters, Fields said.

Faurecia also has other operations in the Detroit area that include two r&d centers and two parts plants.

The Auburn Hills Planning Commission is considering site plan approval for the project.

Peugeot currently owns about 57 percent of Faurecia’s stock.
