Detroit Auto Show Teasers and Previews

Next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit many manufacturers are lining up with new product teasers, facelifted previews and more. BMW, and Cadillac have three such items for us to look at.

BMW Z4 Facelifted

BMW has revealed the mildly revised Z4. Visual changes are very small and for a person not familiar with all the details on the current Z4 will have a hard time telling the differences.

We can see restyled LED headlights, updated front and rear fascias and fender vents. Three new metallic colours are offered including Mineral Grey, Glacier Silver and Valencia Orange. There are also new 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside there is a new optional Design Pure Traction styling pack with black and orange contrasting trim as well as an internet-connected navigation system.

The biggest news is a new entry-level Z4 sDrive18i, that is powered by a detuned 154bhp twin-turbo 2.0-litre engine mated to an six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic gearbox. 0-62mph comes in 7.9 seconds and the top speed is 137mph. Clearly not the fastest compact roadster on the market, but the average fuel economy of 41.5mpg is pretty impressive.

Cadillac ELR Coupe Teaser

Cadillac has revealed a first teaser image for the all-new 2014 ELR extended-range electric luxury coupe.

Cadillac ELR is based on the Converj concept, featuring extended range electric vehicle technology in a unique luxury coupe. Details are limited, but the ELR will go into production in late 2013 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, where the Chevrolet Volt, Vauxhall Ampera/Opel Ampera and Holden Volt are also produced.

BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible Limited Edition Lifestyle

BMW has announced a Limited Edition Lifestyle package for the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible.

The Limited Edition Lifestyle Package adds more equipment and styling details. Exterior colour options include an exclusive Mineral White metallic, while Sapphire Black metallic and Space Grey metallic are also available as alternatives. The kidney grille features white decorative trim and white kidney grille bars with chromed fronts.

There are also Chrome Line window recess finishers and side window surrounds, as well as 18-inch light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design and with a Ferric Grey paint finish. The convertible comes with a brown soft-top with silver pigmentation.

Interior reveals brown leather trim with white contrasting stitching, floor mats with colour-coordinated piping, an anthracite-coloured roof liner, wood strips and door sill finishers bearing “BMW Limited Edition” lettering.

With the M Sport package, the Coupe and Convertible come with an M leather steering wheel in black.
