More company cars fitted with speed limiters

An increasing number of company cars are being fitted with speed limiters as fleet operators seek to improve safety and reduce costs.

Cobra speed limiter sales more than doubled in the second half of 2013 and while most are fitted to are vans, the company reported in Fleet News that some operators are fitting limiters to their cars as well.

Renault introduces 1.6-liter Twin Turbo diesel engine

Leveraging work done for its F1 engine program , Renault has introduced the Energy dCi 160 Twin Turbo, its first 1.6-liter diesel engine with twin-turbocharging. The 1,598cc block delivers 160 hp (119 kW) and 380 N·m (280 lb-ft) of torque, putting it into the realm of 2-liter engines in terms of performance; fuel consumption and CO2 emissions savings are approximately 25%.

Volvo Cars pilots “Roam Delivery” service; deliveries direct to connected cars enabled with one-time digital keys

Volvo Cars will showcase a new service for direct delivery to a connected vehicle at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Using Volvo’s new digital keys technology, car owners will be able to select their car as a delivery option when ordering goods online. Via a smartphone or a tablet, the owner will be informed when a delivery company wants to drop off or pick up something from the car.

New 3-speed EV powertrain to offer 10-15% improvement in EV range

UK-based Drive System Design is developing a new EV powertrain based on an alternate approach to powershifting (no torque interrupt) achieved by separating the existing functions of a synchronizer. The integrated design of an axial flux YASA motor with the multi-speed transmission contributes to simplification of the motor cooling system, electrical architecture and powertrain control system.

Porsche launches three new… bikes

Porsche’s current model line-up includes 7 models (Boxster, Cayman, 911, 918 Spyder, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne) and has never been that big, with more models expected to follow in the next couple of years.

This time Porsche is expanding its bike collection by adding three new members: Bike RX, Bike RS and Bike, which will be available from March 2014.
