Bentley announces its fastest ever road car

Bentley has announced details of its new Continental GT Speed, which develops 616 bhp and has a top speed of 205 mph.

Fitted with a new ZF eight-speed transmission, the GT Speed despatches the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.2 seconds and can reach 100 mph from a standing start in just 9.0 seconds. The chassis has been uprated with new springs, anti-roll bars and bushes, a lowered ride height (by 10mm front and rear) together with re-tuned dampers and steering.

Drink drive fatalities increase by almost one-fifth


The number of fatal accidents involving drink drivers last year rose by 18 per cent, from 220 in 2010 to 260 in 2011 according to figures published by the Department for Transport.

In the same period, the number of people killed in drink drive accidents increased by 12 per cent, from 250 to 280 (one accident can involve more than one fatality). This means that 15 per cent of all fatalities in road accidents involved drink driving.

App to avoid red traffic lights


Scientists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a programme that can predict when traffic lights will turn green and show the driver the best speed to maintain in order to avoid having to stop.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued a timely warning about the appalling cash for crash scam, whereby criminals cause accidents in order to make false insurance claims.
