Volkswagen is rocking up to the Leipzig Auto Mobil International show in Germany with a handful of special edition cars, the most interesting of which is the Scirocco GTS, above. It’s made to celebrate 30 years since the first Scirocco GTS came off the VW production line, and so gets the same sort of paint job.And if you’re a Scirocco owner (or a particularly astute fan), you’ll note the new bumper and alloy wheel design. It’s got a diffuser and a spoiler, too, and it’s powered by a 208bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.

Oh, and inside it has the golf ball gear knob that’s more synonymous with the Golf GTI, but was also used on the Scirocco GTS three decades ago.

Whether it previews some sort of sporty Scirocco pack due for production, time will tell. We’d like to think so, but we wouldn’t put any money on it. There’s a recession, you know.
