Volkswagen Golf VI R Cabriolet Revealed, Priced at £38,770

Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet
Volkswagen has unveiled the new Golf R Cabriolet, the first-ever open-top R model and the fastest-ever production open-top Golf. Even though the new seventh-generation Golf is already on the market, the Golf R Cabriolet is based on the sixth-generation model and it will be a while until new seventh-generation gets an open top variant.

The Golf R Cabriolet is powered by a 261bhp four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine connected to a standard six-speed DSG gearbox transmitting power to the front wheels. 0-62mph comes in just 6.4 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

Visual changes compared to the standard Golf Cabriolet include bespoke front bumper with gloss-black grille and ‘R’ logo, LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlights with black housings, gloss-black door mirror, black-painted brake callipers with R logo., side sill extensions, gloss black rear diffuser, chrome-tipped exhaust tips and smoked LED tail lights.

The interior features four individual sports seats in ‘Vienna Cool Leather’ with ‘R’ logos in the head restraints, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, pedals with brushed aluminium caps, doors and dashboard boat ‘Silver Lane’ aluminium decorative inlays and handbrake grip and gear lever all have contrasting grey stitching.

Compared to the standard model the ‘R’ suspension lowers the ride by 25 mm and wheel options include 18- or 19-inch ‘Talladega’ alloy wheels in either ‘Sterling Silver’ or optionally ‘High-gloss Black’.

The fully electric insulated hood is operated by a switch in the centre console, and can be lowered in 9.5 seconds at speeds of up to 18 mph and raised in 11.0 seconds.

The Golf R Cabriolet will be available to order this spring, priced at £38,770.
